Nicki Ironcabral da Silva, a 25-year-old man known as “Anjo,” died early on Saturday after being shot by police officers. The incident occurred in the Moreninhas region after the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle without a helmet, fled from a police checkpoint.
According to the police report, the officers spotted the suspect riding the motorcycle without a helmet around 3:20 a.m. today. When they attempted to stop him, the suspect refused and fled.
The police then began to chase the suspect, who jumped off the motorcycle and ran towards a house that was under construction. According to the police report, he then turned around, pulled out a .765 caliber pistol, and fired two shots at the police officers.
To stop the suspect, the officers also fired their weapons, hitting him in the chest. Nicki fell to the ground and was taken to the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) in Bairro Universitário, but he died at the scene. The motorcycle was reported stolen in October 2023.
According to the police record, the man was wanted by the prison system and had a history of theft, robbery, drug trafficking, receiving stolen goods, attempted homicide, kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment, and domestic violence, most of which occurred when he was a teenager.
The case was registered at the Depac (Community Emergency Care Police Station) Cepol. The motorcycle was taken to the Defurv (Specialized Police Station for the Repression of Vehicle Robbery and Theft).
